After two months in tranzit zone of Sheremetyevo airport a family of Syrian Kurds Hasan Ahmed Abdo and Gulistan Shao Issa is finally released. On November 20, Federal Migration Service employees have accepted their application for refugee status and have sent the family to a temprorary accomodation center for displaced persons in Tver region.
On Friday, November 20, Federal Migration Service employees in the transit zone of Sheremetyevo airport have accepted refugee status applications of the family of Syrian Kurds Hasan Ahmed Abdo and Gulistan Shao Issa. At that point the family with four children has been staying locked up in the transit zone for more than two months, since September 10. Migration Service employees issued to refugees identity documents on consideration of their applications and sent them to a temprorary accomodation center for displaced persons in Tver region.
“A miracle has happened today”, wrote that evening Head of Civic Assistance Committee Svetlana Gannushkina on her Facebook page. “We were at the seminar (seminar of legal network “Migration and Law”) and were listening to the speech of Vladimir Rucheykov, Head of Asylum Division of Federal Migration Service. He presented two reports: on Ukranian refugees and on Syrians. The second part was dedicated to the family from Sheremetyevo. Our lawyers carried out their assessment of the situation. A lawyer Rosa Magomedova reported to Rucheykov about the sentence (on November 19 the family was sentenced to the fine of 10 thousand rubles, but remained in the transit zone) and about the course of this case in European Court of Human Rights. Rucheykov said that our Syrians should now re-apply for asylum. Rosa immediately sent the text of refugee status application to the family. Rucheykov right during the debates called one of his employees. Ah hour later Gulistan called Rosa and said, that FMS employees had come to the airport and were accepting their applications at the moment. Rosa went to them. And two hours later she called ans said that their applications had been accepted for consideration, they were given relevant documents and were invited to go to a temprorary accomodation center in Tver region. We were fighting for this for two months, and then it has been solved in half a day.”
According to the lawyer of the family Rosa Magomedova, the family plans to stay in the temprorary accomodation center while migration service is considering their statement: “The family faces economic hardship and the conditions of stay in the center are good, especially fro children. It’s a former recreation center. And when a problem with the status will be solved, the family is likely to go to Gulistan’s sister in Samara”.
On November 19 Khimki District Court of Moscow considered the case of the family, accused of illegal border crossing with fake passports. The court found defendants guilty of committing crimes under Article 322 of the Criminal Code, but prescribed a lenient punishment — a fine of 10 thousand rubles. Rosa Magomedova has already appealed the decision in the Moscow Regional Court; on the basis of a note to the Article 322 the refugee family should not have been prosecuted. Earlier the lawyer had already filed a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights.
