Svetlana Gannushkina Receives Right Livelihood Award

On 25 November 2016 the ceremony of the Right Livelihood Award, also known as “Alternative Nobel Prize”, was held in Stockholm. Other winners of 2016 are Syrian volunteers White Helmets, Egyptian women’s organization Nazra and Turkish newspaper Cumhuriyet. Svetlana Gannushkina tops Harpviken’s 2016 Nobel Peace Prize Shortlist

The Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) Director Kristian Berg Harpviken’s shortlist for the Nobel Peace Prize is out, with the Russian activist and human rights contender Svetlana Gannushkina on top. Harpviken also finds that nuclear deal negotiators Ernest Moniz and Ali Akbar Salehi; Syrian rescue workers The White Helmets; Edward Snowden; and the Congolese trio Jeanne Nacatche Banyere, Jeannette Kahindo Bindu and Dr. Denis Mukwege are potential candidates for this year’s prize.

Svetlana Gannushkina Awarded Alternative Nobel Prize

A leading figure of the human rights movement in Russia today, Svetlana Gannushkina, has been announced as a Laureate of the 2016 Right Livelihood Award. Gannushkina receives this award ‘for her decades-long commitment promoting human rights and justice for refugees, forced migrants, and different ethnic groups’.

Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has awarded a Pro Dignitate Humana prize to Civic Assistance Committee. On December 18, at the Award Ceremony, a Minister Witold Waszczykowski noted that Committee was awarded for its “resilience and humanity”.

Syrian Migrant Family Released From Sheremetyevo Transit Zone And Moved To Tver Region

After two months in tranzit zone of Sheremetyevo airport a family of Syrian Kurds Hasan Ahmed Abdo and Gulistan Shao Issa is finally released. On November 20, Federal Migration Service employees have accepted their application for refugee status and have sent the family to a temprorary accomodation center for displaced persons in Tver region.

Asylum System in Russia Resembles an Empty Skyscraper

On October 15, the Civic Assistance Committee presented the report “Russia as a Country of Asylum” to colleagues and journalists. This report is based on the results of years of Committe work in assistance to refugees. It also contains data of a special monitoring of migration services work and of court hearings on refugees’ cases in Moscow and Moscow region.

Beaten Up, Expelled, Reinstated. The Story of Boris Desten Missamu

In May 2010, Boris Desten Missamu’s fellow student beat him up, and afterwards Desten was expelled from the university “for improper behavior”. Thanks to the Civic Assistance Committee, the student was reinstated and earned the degree of bachelor – although in Voronezh.
