The young Syrian Odey al Shufi and his 19 year-old wife, Russian citizen Nadezhda Yepifanova, live in Saint Petersburg – she is studying on the second course at LSU and he is a trainee with friends at a cafe. Or rather, he was a trainee: On the holiday evening of the 7 March 2016 a stranger came to the cafe and stabbed Odey more than ten times with a knife.
At the end of June Andrey Makarov, a member of ‘Occupy Narkofiliay’ accused of carrying out two attacks, has signed his acknowledgment of the case documents that went under the examination of the Prosecutor General. This means that in the near future the prosecutor will decide which court will continue to examine the ‘Restrukt’ case.
Whist the case of ‘Restrukt’ is passed from one department to the other, Alexander Lee, victim of the attack by neo-Nazis is suffering. He again needs help: a severe fracture of the femur complicated by necrosis and constant, uncontrollable pain has added to the immediate necessity for an operation. Sasha’s condition is critical. The Civic Assistance Committee projects coordinator Anastasiya Denisova participated in elaboration of the volume ‘Hate Crime Victim Support in Europe – A Practical Guide’, contributing with case study, Committee’s assisting in investigation of racist murder, committed in June 2009 by a group of young members of a nationalistic movement from the Moscow regional town Protvino.
On Monday, April 11, Babushkinskiy district court pleaded guilty Kirill Filatov, activist of Russian National Socialist movement Restrukt, and sentenced him to six years in penal colony. This is the first verdict in cases of the group, accused as well of attack on our applicant, Uzbekistan citizen Aleksander Lee.
On Friday, April 8, between Novye Cheryomushky and Kaluzhskaya subway stations in Moscow, an elderly man fired a trauma pistol several times into the head of a man of non-Slavic appearance. The wounded man is now in the intensive care ward of City Clinic Hospital No. 1 in serious condition. The Civic Assistance Committee has taken charge of the victim’s legal defense.
On Thursday, November 4, Court continued hearings on Kirill Filatov case, one of the members of Russian National Socialist movement Restrukt. In July, 2014 together with other Restrukt members (their trials began in early February) Filatov attacked Uzbek citizen Alexander Lee. The victim received a severe spinal injury. He has been bedridden for a long time.
In May 2010, Boris Desten Missamu’s fellow student beat him up, and afterwards Desten was expelled from the university “for improper behavior”. Thanks to the Civic Assistance Committee, the student was reinstated and earned the degree of bachelor – although in Voronezh.
